Col. Walter Rivera, MD, 61, of Loudonville passed away unexpectedly at Albany Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Ismael and Manuela Morales Rivera. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, surgeon, soldier and hero. He will be remembered for his brilliance, love and honor. He touched many lives locally and around the world during his three military tours oversees, as well as leading at the World Trade Center during 911. He is survived by his wife, Zandra Rios Rivera of Loudonville, his son Daniel Rivera of Watervliet, his daughter Vanessa (Blake) Taylor of Colonie and his granddaughter, Chloe Taylor. Also survived by his siblings Joe Rivera of Naples, FL., Vickie Romero of the Bronx and Sally Rivera of Virginia, also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be missed and remain greatly loved by all who knew him. Funeral Tuesday, 11:00am at the DUFRESNE FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Pastor Darren Persons, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7pm. Interment with full military honors in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
