Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean M. Murray, of Latham and Chestertown, passed away on February 22, 2015 after an extended journey through Alzheimer's disease. Jean was born on May 9, 1929, the daughter of Laurence J. and J. Louise Murray. Jean attended schools in Boght Corners, graduated from the Milne School and was a dedicated alumna of Endicott College in Boston, where she nurtured a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Jean worked with her parents, and later operated the family business, Murray Oil Heat, and was active in the Oil Heat Dealers Association. A longtime member of the United Church of Cohoes, Jean served as an elder, a member of the Women's Association and chaired the Building Committee, helping to guide a wide range of construction and rehabilitation projects at the church. Jean was born in a house built by her grandfather, and inherited the "fix-it" gene, eventually building her own house in Latham and remodeling her summer home at Loon Lake. Jean loved being at Loon Lake, spending time in Florida with her snow bird friends, traveling in Europe and her "adopted" family. Jean was a dear friend of the late Jim and Lois Wells and their family; Nancy Wells and Bob Boehlert of Latham, Bill and Ginny Wells of Springfield, VA and Carolyn Wells of Latham and their families, including Louisa Boehlert Vaughan, Donald and Robert Murdoch and Andrew and Juliette Wells. Jean is also survived by her cousins, Lyman Gulick of Budd Lake, NJ and Leona Murray of Boght Corners and their families. A special thanks to the devoted staff at Albany County Nursing Home for their care and caring over the last three years while Jean lived at the Home, and to Rev. Nick TeBordo for his faithful visitations. Calling hours will be at 10:00am on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the United Church of Cohoes, 123 Mohawk Street, Cohoes, NY with a service to follow at 11:00am with Rev. Nick TeBordo officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Sonshine Patch Scholarship Fund United Church of Cohoes or the charity of your choice.
